The Revolutionary Affair Dinners are a tradition at the Grain House.  The restaurant is located in a building constructed in 1768 and provides the ideal backdrop for this journey back into history.
Born in 1736, Patrick Henry was an American founding father who used his exceptional oratory talent to change the course of history. He was a radical in his time and was known as a firebrand.  He first realized his unique ability to influence others while arguing cases as an attorney during the 1760’s, and he subsequently became involved in politics for the state of Virginia.  He served five terms as Governor of Virginia.
At the First Continental Congress in Philadelphia in 1774, Henry urged the colonists to rebel against British rule; "The distinctions between Virginians, Pennsylvanians, New Yorkers, and New Englanders are no more," Henry said. "I am not a Virginian, but an American."
Patrick Henry is probably best known for the following quote from his speech to the Virginia Convention on March 23, 1775 , ”I know not what course others may take, but as for me, give me liberty, or give me death!”
During the May 6, 1776, Virginia Convention, Henry strongly advocated the call for independence from British rule that resulted in the signing of the Declaration of Independence by Congress on July 4, 1776.   He was also instrumental in the adoption of the Bill of Rights in 1891.

The Grain House Restaurant is part of the historic10-acre Olde Mill Inn estate in Basking Ridge, New Jersey.  The restaurant is housed in a building constructed in the 1760’s as a mill barn that stored grain for soldiers during the American Revolutionary War.  The original historic structure has been carefully preserved, and the Grain House offers traditional and contemporary American cuisine by nationally renowned Chef Walter Leffler.
