By: PGC Creative The LIVESTRONG Childhood Cancer Survivorship Center at the Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas supports and encourages children cancer survivors by guiding families with plans to address the complicated needs following treatment. Children survivors are reinforced with advocates that help them navigate the physical, emotional and educational challenges that are frequently associated with their treatment. This program aids in stabilizing the continued recovery of young cancer survivors into strong and healthy adults. Rita Willoughby of the Dell Children’s Medical Center Foundation commented “Seton has truly produced a wonderful and uplifting facility. The beautiful natural accents of the building and sun-lit rooms are only the beginning of what is provided to support healing. We really appreciate the contribution by Z’Tejas to the LIVESTRONG Center.” The Dell Children’s Medical Center in Austin is the first hospital in the world to achieve Platinum status under the Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) program, sponsored by the U.S. Green Building Council. "We passionately pursued the LEED Platinum designation to demonstrate our commitment to sustainability, protect our central Texas environment, and most important, improve the clinical outcomes for our patients," said Bob Bonar, President and CEO, Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas. "The connection between a healthy environment and improved patient outcomes is well established. The clinical impact of improved air quality, availability of sunlight, and the addition of "natural" settings have all been examined. For example, a University of Pittsburgh study in 2004 showed that patients with access to ample sunlight required 20 percent less pain medication." The virtual tour of Seton’s Dell Children’s Medical Center is available at www.dellchildrens.net. One reason Z’Tejas decided to support this center is due to their unique history with the LIVESTRONG organization. “The idea of the Lance Armstrong Foundation began at Z’Tejas 6th Street location in 1996, so it’s only fitting that we support the LIVESTRONG Survivorship Center,” said Nick Rotas, Regional Manager of Z’Tejas. “Lance and four others met for dinner with the common goal to unite people battling cancer, and now we are proud to provide support for this cause.” About Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas- Dell children’s Medical Center of Central Texas replaced Children's Hospital of Austin and opened in June 2007.
