Sun SafeTee Teams with Dermatologic Surgeons to Promote Skin Cancer Awareness For Golfers

Nov. 8, 2010 - PRLog -- San Diego, CA – The Sun SafeTee Program announced today that they have been selected by The American Society of Dermatologic Surgeons (ASDS) to participate in their Volunteer Opportunities Clearinghouse.  The Clearinghouse matches dermatologists who want to volunteer their time with organizations in search of their expertise.  Currently seven non profit organizations have been chosen to participate in the program.
      “We are very proud to have been selected by the ASDS,” said Mark Wishner President of the Sun SafeTee Program.  “This is a special and unique honor to have been chosen from all of the organizations that want to work with the ASDS.  We will benefit from this alliance by having a resource to find dermatologists to staff the many skin cancer screenings that we offer to the golf community.”
      This year in the United States, more than 3 million skin cancers will be diagnosed.  One in five Americans will get skin cancer in their lifetime.  Since golfers spend significantly more time in the sun than the average person does, they are at a higher risk of developing sun damage and/or skin cancer.  
      “By partnering with Sun SafeTee, the ASDS has shown that they appreciate the importance of our outreach to golfers and wants to help us educate golfers on sun protection and provide opportunities for the early detection of skin cancer”, Wishner added.  
      The purpose of the Society is to foster, promote, support, augment, develop and encourage investigative knowledge in Dermatologic Surgery; to promote the highest possible standards in clinical practice, continuing education and research in Dermatologic Surgery; to promote the highest standards of patient care and promote the public interest relating to Dermatologic Surgery and to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and methodology for Dermatologic Surgery and related basic sciences.
