Follow on Google News | Leading Georgia Robotic Surgeon Performs Uterine Fibroid Surgery With The DaVinci Surgical SystemMichael D. Randell, MD, an Atlanta Gynecologist, performs uterine fibroid surgery with the daVinci surgical robot. This minimally invasive technique, performed as an outpatient, allows women to have their fibroids removed through small incisions.
By: Andrea Corbello Uterine fibroids are very common. They occur in 2 or 3 out of every 10 women over the age of 35. They occur most often in women between the ages of 30 and 50, but women in their 20s can have them too. Although most women experience symptoms such as heavy vaginal bleeding and pelvic or abdominal discomfort, some do not exhibit any symptoms. Fibroids can also make it difficult to get pregnant or carry a pregnancy to full term. “Most women are unaware of the newest surgical techniques available to them to get rid of their fibroids,” said Dr. Randell. “Today, with the use of the daVinci robot, women can have their fibroids removed, called a myomectomy, through a few small incisions. This allows for quick healing, less pain, and a return to normal activity soon after the surgery.” Dr. Randell, who has performed over 300 robotic procedures, is where other gynecologists send their patients in need of fibroid surgery. In addition, many women who are told by their own gynecologists that they need to have a hysterectomy seek out Dr. Randell due to his ability to preserve a women’s uterus and only remove the fibroids. On the popular website RateMDs.com, one of Dr. Randell’s patients wrote, “Dr. Randell was able to remove my huge fibroid and have me back on my feet quickly. He is amazing with the robot and barely makes a scratch on your tummy.” “Many patients are told that they need a hysterectomy or that their surgery needs to be done through traditional open surgery. My team and I have perfected the robotic procedure where just the fibroids are removed and the uterus is sewn back together in way to ensure a healthy pregnancy,” said Dr. Randell. Dr. Randell is a well-trained gynecological surgeon with more than 19 years of experience performing complex gynecological procedures. He also trains other surgeons on the use of the daVinci robot and lectures across the Country on many topics in women’s healthcare. Dr. Randell is one of the first surgeons to use a combination of lasers and robotics in gynecological surgery and is currently working with a Boston company in advancing this technique. “My patients ultimately benefit from these innovations in minimally invasive surgery.” Visit http://www.fibroidsatlanta.com or http://www.obgynatlanta.com for more information # # # Michael D.
