By: Joe Bruno Since the start of the 20th Century, the Italians and Chinese in the Little Italy/Chinatown area in New York City have endured an uneasy truce. In the first three quarters of the century, the Italians ruled the neighborhood with an iron fist. But starting in the 1970's, the dynamics began to change, as more Italians moved out and droves of Chinese began flowing into Chinatown from China. This did not bode well for Italian mob boss Tony Bentimova (Tony B), so he enlisted the help of his most trusted killer, Big Fat Fanny Fanelli, all six foot six inches and six hundred and sixty pounds of her, to ensure the Italians maintained control of all the illegal rackets in Little Italy, which slowly, but surely, was being transformed into Chinatown. Long-time Little Italy resident LV says about “Find Big Fat Fanny Fast”: “Joe Bruno has captured the essence of Lower East Side street mentality in this work. Unless one immerses himself in this type of environment in real life, there is no way you can make this stuff up. Having grown up in New York’s Little Italy, I can fully relate to and appreciate the vignettes he paints. His staccato style is a perfect match for the wild situations and colorful characters that inhabit Fat Fanny’s world, which features Fanny herself as the leading lady. Get ready to laugh your ass off. Each chapter is like a jolt of Red Bull on steroids. Buckle up and enjoy the ride.” Author Sonny Girard says about “Find Big Fat Fanny Fast”: “All good comedy is based in reality.
