Bucks County Sculpture Showcase 2010 Highlights Local Artisan Tony Williams

Oct. 12, 2010 - PRLog -- Bucks County Gallery of Fine Arts is pleased to present its 2nd annual juried sculpture show, Bucks County Sculpture Showcase 2010.

Bucks County's largest fine art gallery, Bucks County Gallery of Fine Arts, is situated in gorgeous New Hope, Pennsylvania amidst many cultural activities.  The gallery boasts both indoor and outdoor spaces which are fully utilized for the unique sculptures you can view from many vantage points.  While inside the seven room, two story gallery contemplate the talents of artisans from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland and Delaware.

Thanks to the keen eyes of Lisa Tremper Hanover, curator at the Phillip & Muriel Berman Museum at Ursinus College as well as Howard Cooperman, owner of the gallery with thirty years experience, the Bucks County Sculpture Showcase 2010 has sculptures in bronze, metal, wood, resin and more.

Tony Williams, www.atwilliamsart.com,  is one of the highlighted artisans whose studio is in Souderton, Pennsylvania.  While Tony did not have to travel more than 20 miles, he embodies the traditions of Bucks County artists of the past and present.  

Tony submitted his sculpture "No More Night" which is hand carved mahogany.  "No More Night" was inspired by a bible verse from Revelations.  The sunlight radiates behind a billowing cloth draped over a cross in deep relief over the phrase "and there will be no more night."   Look for the small dove in flight over the intersecting sunbeams.  Tony Williams' love of wood is not typically thought of for such fine sculpture but it will beckon you to reach out to run your fingers over such a magnificent shape and form.  

It is no wonder Tony was included in the book "Studio Furniture:  Today's Leading Woodworkers" by Tina Skinner of Schiffer Publication as one of the sixty wood artisans to watch.   In fact, Tony Williams recently presented a seminar -  The Art of Wood during the Bucks County Designer House 2010 and was invited to have a boutique during the May long designer house.  Tony had an exclusive interview by Chris Wakefield's Into the Night 1470 KHND radio show on 3/11/10.  He was invited to be a visiting artist at large at the Harbour View Gallery, Cape Coral, FL earlier this year and is looking forward to a solo event at the Piedmont Arts Center, Martinsville, VA at the end of the year.

Tony Williams and the other featured artists find the vibe in New Hope laid back, rich in the art which inspired the New Hope School painters and George Nakashima's iconic furniture.

Bucks County Gallery of Fine Art is proud to showcase sixty sculptures October 1st thru October 30th in historic Bucks County.  A quick hour getaway from Philadelphia or 1 1/2 hours from New York also plan visits to hip restaurants, wineries, shops, the playhouse or spend the night in one of the many bed and breakfast establishments so you can ride the steam engine train, bike or walk along the Delaware River.
