With the fall comes a lot of things- colorful leaves, leather jackets and chronic illness events. Here are a couple of things to kick off a healthy and well-informed fall season! Invisible Illness Awareness Week (Sept. 13 - 19): This site has articles covering many different invisible illnesses, including lupus, arthritis and mental illness. There's a great selection of articles and, probably most important, a week-long teleconference through BlogTalkRadio. Even if you missed the actual event, they keep the teleconferences online for download, so drop in, and browse. New York City Hospital Tour (Oct. 2010): A yearly event sponsored by the SLE Lupus Foundation in New York, this is a must-go event. A major hospital in every borough of the city hosts a great seminar gear toward Lupus awareness and treatment. I go every year and every year is packed with news about the latest research and treatment options. You get a chance to meet some of the leading doctors in lupus research and it's a great place to bring family and friends, so they can learn from the authorities about what Lupus is really like. Walk to Cure Lupus (various locations, 2010): From the Alliance for Lupus Research comes a fundraising marathon. In NYC, it's Oct. 6th starting at Battery Park, but there are loads of other locations and dates all over the country, so check out the website for more details. Not a walker? You can still help out by creating a team or sponsoring someone else. A whopping 100% of the proceeds go right to the scientists and doctors who are working for a lupus cure. Lupus Foundation of America Teleconference (Sept. -Nov. 2010): The good ole Lupus Foundation of America is also kicking off a free series of teleconferences online on a variety of lupus-related topics. You can get the schedule and register to join through EventBrite. I know the saying "knowledge is power" is about as fresh and new as the contents of an abandoned dumpster, but there's really nothing good to be gained from ignorance, especially when it comes to your health. * courtesy of Ro Molina http://www.thelupusmagazine.com/ # # # Published monthly, The Lupus Magazine has been established as we search worldwide for a cure for lupus. It's a place where you can enjoy the latest lupus news and articles from around the world. End
