Lupus Impacts on Families Too

May 2, 2011 - PRLog -- The Lupus Magazine is a free, independent and ad-free online magazine published monthly by volunteers.  This month we pay tribute to the family and friends of those battling with lupus.

The Lupus Magazine's Kimberly interviews those who know more about her battle with lupus than possibly anyone else - her parents.

"Usually, for my column, “The Lupie Life,” I write about my own personal experiences living with Lupus, and how I manage my illness on a day-to-day basis… But what most people do not realize is that Lupus and any chronic illness for that matter, affects more than just the person who is diagnosed," writes Kimberly.

Editor Geoff Thomas decided that a month usually devoted to lupus awareness in America could also focus on the often forgotten ones dealing with lupus - the families.

"While the month of May is usually reserved for lupus awareness in America, the submissions of many of our writers for this month's edition seemed to have an underlying theme.  And many of the girls had written about the impact of their lupus on their families.  Or more importantly, the support they'd received from friends an loved ones."

Thomas added, "I only have a mild form of lupus and prior to being diagnosed, nobody in my family, including myself, had ever heard of it.  Yet for many of our writers and their familes struggling with major issues, I felt there was a need to respect those with loved ones with lupus...  And to let them know, we love you for all your support.  It's often forgotten and well over-due"
