Follow on Google News | Irish Inventor on short visit homeVisiting Ireland at present is Mr Daniel Friel from Donegal but now living in Brisbane. Mr Friel has invented a solar powered address number lighting product which can help solve address identity issues at night-time in an energy saving fashion.
By: Colm Griffin Donegal man Daniel Friel has invented a solar product to counter this problem and one which when installed makes life easier for the emergency services, taxi-drivers and delivery personnel. According to Friel ‘I’m an civil engineer by profession and when I started out I did a fair share of house calls in the evenings. It was a frustrating experience because in most cases I needed to walk right up to the front door before I could establish if I was at the right place’ 'I decided to address the problem by designing a product which would be stylish, modern and practical. I was also keen for it to be environmentally responsible so that is why I decided that the product needed to be solar based'. Working with his business partner Sandy Soogrim the product was developed. When installed outside a home or business the address system is visible from 30 metres away during the day-time and at night. ‘It it has proved very popular in Australia and has been featured on a number of TV shows and listed as a smart design product.’ Mr Friel has now has now developed a larger version of the unit which is ideal for signage be it house names, business names or security signs such as ‘private property’ or even ‘no junk mail’ The smaller unit is already available through Irish distributor purchase.ie for €34.95 plus delivery.
