Some Developments in 2010
Using the energy value within the resource biogas  can be sourced from any organic waste stream. Waste and Wastewater treatment plants, landfill sites, food companies, breweries, farms and many other sources of organic waste are increasingly using their resources to generate energy.
Today’s technology means a relatively simple conditioning process can turn these facilities into a locally-sourced, reliable and readily available energy source. Landfill is no longer an option for long-term waste disposal. In addition, the technology will reduce methane emissions from manure, sewage sludge and food waste. In 2010 the top 50 waste management contracts yet to be awarded had a combined value of  20 Bn $ for the next years and the market grow with 8 % in 2010worldwide.
China will open the world biggest biogas plant in 2010, the Huishan gas energy project will generate 38,000 megawatt-hours of electricity a year to be sold to the state grid. The biogas farm will begin commercial operation this year and produce fertilizer too. China’s planed investment in biogas plants are 150 Bn for the next years. Germany, for example, has already installed nearly 5,000 biogas plants, European Union in total 9000 plants and has the potential for further installations to 2025, 10 to 15 percent per year.
More Companies develop and offer optimization to improve the process to increases the energy production of biogas plants by as much as 30 percent. This enables public operators to significantly reduce their own costs andincrease the profit. Also combined heat and power applications, which can be run on either city gas or bio gas, will increase the use of fuel cell technologies in the future.
