Sept. 20, 2010 - PRLog -- With Fred Olsen and its northern Europe cruise excursions it’s possible to explore the Hardangerfjord, the second-longest Fjord in Norway. Once boarded the coach at Bergen pier, it’s time to experience the beautiful fruit orchards and surrounding mountains.

Once boarded the coach the excursion passes through Bergenhus Fortress, King Håkon’s Hall and Rosenkrantz Tower, buildings which date from the time of the Hanseatic League. The trip continues on to the short fjord located in the village of Os, enjoying the views of snow-capped mountains, before taking a ferry crossing from Hatvik to Venjaneset.

The tour continues to take in Gjøna Lake and the farming hamlet of Eide, before moving onto Hardangerfjord itself. After a drive along this ‘Queen of the Fjords’ a stop is made in Øystese for lunch. Once refreshed the guests head inland to see the Steinsdal Waterfall, with an opportunity to walk right behind it. After reaching the peaks of Tokagjel Gorge, Kvamskogen and Gulbotn, the tour proceed to Sørfjord (South Fjord), where Oster Island – the largest island on the west coast – is in view.

Back in Bergen, the guests can rejoin Fred Olsen cruise ship after a truly memorable day.
This excursion involves scenic driving and several tunnels. There is a moderate amount of walking and steps involved. The walk behind the waterfall contains rocky, uneven terrain and will be wet and slippery. A waterproof jacket is recommended. The tour is not recommended for wheelchair users. Lunch will typically be buffet style.
