Sept. 14, 2010 - PRLog -- Every day 39 employees in Australia’s construction industry suffer a work related injury or disease requiring at least one week off work*, costing employers millions of dollars every year and leaving them open to litigation. Fortunately, innovative new occupational health and safety (OSH) management system, SAF T MAP, by The Safety Alliance Limited (TSA), is making it easier and more affordable for construction companies of any size to identify and manage workplace hazards.

The system, which has been developed by professionals with years of experience in the construction, safety and training industries, allows employers or designated safety managers to determine whether they're meeting quality, environment and safety requirements. SAF T MAP uses information entered by designated users to outline where requirements are being met and, where they are lacking, outlining what action needs to be taken to ensure compliance.

SAF T MAP packages range in price from less than $2,000 to $30,000 - making them less than half the price of similar industry products. Exact pricing is determined by a number of factors including staff and user numbers and individual business requirements.

TSA Chief Executive Officer, Paul Douglas, said as a former builder he understands the frustration of managing compliance requirements in the building industry.

"Building legislation and safety regulations are constantly changing in Australia and it can be tough to keep on top of requirements, particularly when you're operating in multiple states.

"SAF T MAP is an online system, which means it can be accessed from anywhere by staff on portable devices with internet access such as laptops, mobile phones and PDA's. It also means TSA can update the system to reflect any changes in legislation and to incorporate feedback from clients, trainers and inspectors, ensuring construction companies are always working with the most up-to-date information," he said.

Asbestos Removals CEO, Jon Raven, who had the opportunity to trial the system before its launch, said he was impressed by how easy the system was to use.

"You don't need expert computer skills to drive the system. It is easy to navigate and it’s easy to understand the reports and the results generated by the information I put in. I’m now not wasting time as a business owner on trying to work out what I need to fix to be compliant, as it tells me straight up!

"It's obvious that TSA know their stuff. The system is very professional and relevant to the needs of the construction industry. I have every confidence that my business would pass any audit with flying colours if I follow the advice of SAF T MAP," Mr Raven said.

SAF T MAP has also been endorsed by leading certification body, Sci-Qual International.

Sci-Qual General Manager, Ben White, said the system is a useful tool for assisting clients with the development of their systems.

“The Safety Alliance integrated management system is fully compatible with the demands of the Safety, Environment and Quality standards.”
