Money! Not the Biggest Motivator in the Workplace

Sept. 24, 2010 - PRLog -- In a recent survey conducted, on a list of 10 motivators for the work place, pay is one of the bottom four of importance.  Once people find they earn enough to live on and money ceases to be a stress factor in their lives many other motivators in the workplace become of higher importance.

Stephen Archer of Leadership Consultancy Spring Partnerships warns ''Employers have got to keep people motivated and give them reason other than money to stay where they are".  Interesting jobs, coaching, training and developing leadership skills have got to come to the fore. Archer continues to say "The best motivation you can give workers now is to invest in them and give them a clear development path in the organization. These things are far more valuable than pay rises.  People stay in an organization because they feel good about themselves.  No-one does this if they're just slogging through - no matter how much they are paid."

Giving staff the opportunity to contribute to a company's growth and development through hard times like the recession will motivate people and give them a role in securing their own future and careers.
