How to Overcome the Fear of Selling

Being a successful business owner or entrepreneur requires sales skills and is one of the most important skills to have.
 
Sept. 13, 2010 - PRLog -- Here are some points to help overcome that fear of sales:

Be an Adviser, not a Seller
A salesman in most cases would try to sell you something whether or not your need it.  An adviser, will answer your questions and make a recommendation based on what he things you need.   Thinking like a seller, means thinking of the outcome ie. the sale.  Thinking as an adviser, takes a lot of pressure off the buyer and leads to a successful sale

Handle Rejection
In a retail store you may be asked  if you need any help finding something, you will respond "no thank you, I'm just looking?'  Does this mean you do not like the salesperson?  No, normally this will be your response because you didn't need their assistance or want that given product.  That's what rejection is.  It's not personal.  You do not buy everything that is offered to you so don't expect your prospect to do the same.

Stop using Excuses
Identify what your excuses are.  The decision maker was at lunch; all of your competitors have already tried to sell them the same thing; too many other things to focus on.  What ever it may be - get rid of it!
Remember your mission is to help them, if the service or product is beneficial for the end buyer, you will make a sale.  If you think approaching the buyer is a horrible nightmare, then it will be.  If you love talking to people and think its fun, that's exactly how it will be.

Sell a Great Product
This seems obvious, but unless you have an amazing product that you believe in, selling it will be difficult.
