 Red Fez Publications releases 28th Issue online.The evolution of Red Fez Publications continues with the release of the 28th issue online at www.redfez.net. Site updates, new features, and additions to the editorial staff provide the framework for the latest vision of Red Fez.
Site updates since the last issue include an auto-generated, random story of the week. Very much like the recent addition of a poem of the week, these weekly picks are another way of showcasing past works. The archives at Red Fez are unique in that the database of stories and poems are searchable by not only style but category, issue, and tags related to theme. New features include audio by Tim Murray and the Corporate Cobras. Expanding the video section is a short video by Cecelia Chapman made in collaboration with Jeff Crouch. Karl Koweski's “Observations of a Dumb Polack” makes a comeback at Red Fez. “Observations” The fiction and poetry sections of this issue are guided by the editorial vision of two new head editors. Patrick Simonelli, of Illinois, is the new Head Fiction Editor. Patrick is the founding editor and webmaster of LitVision, an online literary magazine. He published the novel, Bukowski Never Did This: A Year in the Life of An Underground Writer and His Family by Jack Saunders, through LitVision Press in August 2005. Patrick was also the Copy Editor/Proofreader of Game Quest, a novel by Leopold McGinnis, founder of Red Fez Publications. Michael D. Grover joins the editorial staff as the new Head Poetry Editor. “Now that I'm an editor of a magazine where I don't just throw up all the stuff I want, I see the decisions and cuts are tough.” Michael is a resident artist at The Collingwood Arts Center in Toledo, Ohio. He is the founding editor and publisher of Covert Press, an independent publisher of poetry chapbooks. Recent titles include Kelley Jean White's “In Memory of the Body Donors” and John Dorsey's “The Year Joe Brainard Died”. Former head poetry editor, Rob Taylor, announced he would be leaving Red Fez at the conclusion of this issue to concentrate on his upcoming book and editing duties at One Ghana, One Voice. Rob has been with Red Fez since 2007. Editor-in-Chief, Michele McDannold, said the poetry selected for this issue represents Red Fez Publication's “eclectic vision of literary excellence”. Along with Michael D. Grover, poetry editors Rob Taylor and R.W. Watkins present the poetry of Alan Britt, Nicholas Orlando Bruno, Janet Butler, Harry Calhoun, Alan Catlin, Anna Donovan, Craig Firsdon, John Grochalski, Steven Gulvezan, Holly Jaffe, Peycho Kanev, Cindy M. Kelly, Lyn Lifshin, David McLean, Theron Moore, Andrew Periale, M.P. Powers, JM Reinbold, Andrew Rihn, Sarah Sarai, Peter Schwartz, James Valvis, Michelle Williams, and Thomas Zimmerman. The fiction selections run the gamut of styles and topics, from the horror of voodoo revenge in the bayou to the drama of ex-lovers at the trekkie convention. Michele McDannold filled in for the vacant, fiction editor position with the final selections chosen by Patrick Simonelli. Included in this issue are stories and flash fiction by Mike Boyle, J. Claudius Cloyd, Dylan Gilbert, David Hughes, Margaret Karmazin, Len Kuntz, Mary Ann Loesch, Randi Suzanne Meyer, Josh Olsen, Michelle Ong, Brent Powers, Luis Rivas, Samuel Snoek-Brown, Jon Tait, William Taylor Jr., and Steve Wheeler. Red Fez Publications will continue to evolve in the coming months with the filling of vacancies in the editorial staff and plans to incorporate online chapbooks.
