Red Fez Publications announces the publication of Red Reader #1, a collection of literature and art. Local resident and author, Shaindel Beers, is one of fourteen writers to be included.

April 10, 2011 - PRLog -- Shaindel Beers, Pendleton resident and author, is one of fourteen authors featured in the upcoming publication of “Red Reader #1, a collection of literature and art published by Red Fez Publications.  The book is the first in a series of print publications aimed at promoting the work of underground and under-recognized writers and artists.

Editor Michele McDannold says 'Longing on Hwy 10' is an excellent example of the type of writing they look for at Red Fez.   “Shaindel's writing is clear, candid and earnest.”

The story is set in the Midwest and takes place at a gas station.  Seventeen year old Lynn wants to know who her father is but doesn't have anyone to ask.  She's stuck calculating the odds from customer to customer.  Figuring out who she is takes a turn when she decides to seduce her co-worker.

Beers is familiar with the Midwest.  She was born in South Bend, Indiana and raised in the small town of Argos, Indiana.  From there she went on to study literature at Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama (BA), and at the University of Chicago (MA) before earning her MFA in Creative Writing (Poetry) at Vermont College of Fine Arts.

She is currently a professor of English at Blue Mountain Community College in Pendleton, Oregon and also serves as Poetry Editor of Contrary and as a Poetry Reviewer for Bookslut.

“Red Reader #1” will be available for free at the Zygote in my Fez event being planned for August in Dayton, Ohio.  Advance reading copies are available for book reviewers and journalists.
