Aug. 27, 2010 - PRLog -- Houston, TX –  The first Texas Offshore Wind Energy Roundtable (TOWER) Conference and the Offshore Wind Law (OWL) Conference have caught the attention of key offshore wind energy companies.  E.ON Climate and Renewables Europe, SIEMENS, Hochtief and Siag have confirmed their participation in the conference.

The first Texas Offshore Wind Energy Roundtable (TOWER) Conference and the Offshore Wind Law (OWL) Conference will take place on October 19-22, 2010 in Houston, Texas.  The goal of the four-day conference is to explore the market potential for Texas offshore wind energy sites as well as for leading companies to prepare for the expected boom of wind energy in the Gulf of Mexico.

There are over 40 expected speakers from leading companies and organizations from the Offshore Wind Energy Industry as well as major players in industry and politics. Among other topics, Michael Lewis, Managing Director of E.ON Climate and Renewables Europe, will discuss E.ON’s experiences as one of the largest European offshore wind energy providers. Thomas Mousten, head of SIEMENS offshore wind office in the U.S., will present the company’s experiences as a turbine manufacturer in the area of offshore wind and its current technological capabilities. General Land Office Deputy Commissioner Dwain Rogers, John White of The Wind Alliance and Texas A&M University official Mark Ellison will describe unique Texas opportunities, such as the $700 million facilities at the former Naval Station Ingleside in Corpus Christi Bay as one of the largest potential investments in renewable energy infrastructure in the U.S.

Texas already leads the Americas with more than 10,000 megawatts (MW) of installed onshore wind energy capacity. After the peak years of onshore, the offshore developments have now begun with the first Texas offshore test turbine expected to be operational in 2011. "The favorable conditions in Texas, such as its own transmission network and off-shore sites in a 10-mile zone offer promising market opportunities for businesses in the local wind industry," said Jan Christoph Wiedemann, Managing Director of the German-American Chamber of Commerce in Houston, TX.

The conference is co-organized by the German-American Chamber of Commerce of the Southern U.S., Inc and the Texas Wind Energy Clearinghouse and is supported by the Texas General Land Office (GLO), Texas Wide Open for Business, the Texas Renewable Energy Industries Association (TREIA), the Greater Houston Partnership (GHP), the German Wind Energy Association, the German Energy Agency and Continental Airlines.
