Aug. 18, 2010 - PRLog -- “The question of hierarchy in the family is not whether someone should be in charge of your family. The question is who will be in charge of your family. The truth is, someone will lead and take control of your family,” says Dr. Paterno.  In answer to the problem posed by Psychology Today editor Hara Marano in A Nation of Wimps, Paterno emphasizes that today's children need (and ultimately want) parents to assert their sovereignty and control in a loving and consistent manner.  In his book, Desperately Seeking Parents, Dr. Paterno explicitly champions parents' rights, simplifies parental expectations and rewards children can earn, and rejects the current trend of reducing expectations because of so-called diseases, disorders, and disabilities.  His book is the first parenting book to utilize the Family Constitution, which he will explain during his Full Power Living appearance on October 7, 2010.

Dr. Dathan A. Paterno  (www.desperatelyseekingparents.com) is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist practicing just outside Chicago. Having honed his expertise with children and adolescents for over 18 years in psychiatric hospitals, therapeutic day schools, residential treatment centers, and private practices, he is currently Clinical Director of Park Ridge Psychological Services, a private practice that serves children, adolescents, and their families.
