Clearview Women’s Center to Hold Seminar on Mentalization-Based Therapy for BPD

Aug. 17, 2010 - PRLog -- Venice Beach, Calif. – Clearview Women’s Center, a premier residential treatment center in Los Angeles, is presenting “Mentalization-Based Therapy for Borderline Personality Disorder: Theory and Practice” on Friday, Sept. 17, 2010.

The seminar will focus on the theoretical foundation of Mentalization-Based Therapy and its application to treating patients with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD).

“Mentalization-Based Therapy is a powerful evidence-based therapeutic approach to treating people suffering from Borderline Personality Disorder,” said Michael Roy, MSW, founder and executive director of Clearview Women’s Center. “Clinicians working with this population will find it extremely valuable in their work with BPD patients.”

Featured speakers at the seminar will be Mark Thompson, M.D., associate clinical professor of psychiatry at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) David Geffen School of Medicine, and Daniel Kupper, Ph.D., associate clinical professor at the UCLA Department of Psychiatry and Borderline Personality Disorder Initiative at the Semel Institute at UCLA.

The workshop will also feature a panel discussion on how Mentalization-Based Therapy can be effectively used in BPD treatment. The panel will be facilitated by Katherine Niemela, RN, MN, clinical director at Clearview Women’s Center.

The seminar will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Clearview Treatment Programs’ newest location in Venice Beach, Calif. Admission to the seminar is $35, which includes breakfast and lunch. The seminar meets the qualifications for three hours of continuing education credit for marriage and family therapists and/or licensed clinical social workers.
