Twitter site uses news items to show relevance of 2008 novel 'Pookoo'

This Twitter site is an Olympic challenge of sorts. Can a site use current news items and relay them to a 2008 novel? You decide. Readers can even download the PDF ebook for free and help spot moments. It's now Pookoo in the News.

Aug. 8, 2010 - PRLog -- ROCKFORD, Illinois - This unique way of using Twitter not only finds a useful application to the hot social media web site, but it relays current news items to followers on how relevant the 2008 novel POOKOO is today.

"Pookoo's main character is a famous athlete with a blond wife, many girlfriends, a sex scandal and lost sponsorship," Shiloh explained. "I knew when the Tiger Woods scandal broke that its themes would hit home with readers."

The new web site is http://www.twitter.com/pookoobook.

Some readers have pointed out how spooky the supernatural-like occurrences and coincidences are, but Shiloh says the on-target words are due to knowing people and history.

Still, Shiloh welcomes readers join his Twitter site and to find news items that relate to the novel. To help, you can download the PDF of POOKOO for free at http://www.pookoo.net. It's also available as a Kindle download or paperback from Amazon.com. If you find an instance of 'Pookoo in the News", you can also mail it to dlshiloh@yahoo.com.

"I spent years on it, crafting it like a Chinese puzzle box," Doug Shiloh said. "One thing was inside another, with a variety of layers. I'm the type of reader who likes to read a book more than once. One read is not enough."

Along with raising a family and having a career that included a stint as a small town newspaper sports editor, Shiloh decided to take his time with his first novel because of the way he relates to The Novel. He thinks non-readers dismiss books as a media form. He also knows the publishing industry needs a new crop of books on a regular basis.

"We buy movies and music expecting to watch or listen to it more than once,Shiloh added. "Why don't we revisit a book? A book should be able to move us as we age and go through life. My favorites are the ones I go back to and they have something new every time."

Shiloh is writing a new book titled "Waiting for the End." It is set in a post 9-11 world.
