New floating concrete grinder with Hoverhood dust shroud is easier to use

Aug. 5, 2010 - PRLog -- The floating ability of this concrete grinder is due to the elimination of seal friction and a different design concept for airflow to control the grinding dust.

Traditionally, concrete grinder dust shrouds were made of flexible material and all of the perimeter seal touched the floor causing friction which quickly tired the operator unless they were very experienced. This complete seal also caused vacuum suction lock which increased the friction making it very difficult to move the grinder at all and many deep grooves were accidentally ground into floors as a result.

This added friction also prevented operators from being able to grind the floor lightly in places where a quick grind was all that was needed. To be able to do that the grinder needs to float lightly so it can be moved in any direction with light pressure and to be able to be moved in a circular motion for the most even finish.

Situp Products have overcome these problems with their "Hoverhood" floating dust shroud that has no friction because the seal does not touch the floor. They named it Hoverhood because it feels like a hovercraft floating on air. Actually the floating sensation comes from the fast-spinning grinding wheel which has no added friction to prevent it from skimming across the floor.

The Hoverhood dust shroud has adjustable seals which are set to allow a small gap between the seal and the floor for the airflow to enter under the seal at floor level where the dust is being generated. This makes more sense than having an extra hole in the top of the dust shroud for air entry. The airflow at the point where the diamonds are grinding the floor helps to take away the dust more efficiently as it moves from under the grinding wheel to above it and out the exhaust port and this airflow also cools the diamonds which is important when grinding hard concrete.

The seal is attached with hook and loop fixing so that the air gap can be altered immediately for different strengths of vacuum dust collector airflow. This will ensure that the concrete grinder always floats no matter what dust collector system is used.
