6500 Mile Flight Around the United States in SR-22

Aug. 5, 2010 - PRLog -- August 5, 2010 Norwood, MA - Steve Sullivan (IMC Club member since November 2009 and the member of the Board of Directors of that organization) and his daughter Delaney, 13, is undertaking the Flight Around America.

They took off on Monday Aug. 2nd, 2010 for a 25 day, 6500 mile flight around the United States. They will stop at 20 mostly small airports to visit family and friends and see the sights, from Lake Superior to the Pacific coast to Key West and places in between. “I’ve been dreaming about this trip for many years hoping to one day show our daughter, and our youngest son (whose flight will be next year), the wonders of our country. I also hope they’ll come away with an appreciation for the privilege we pilots have of being able to fly nearly anywhere in our country without a lot of fuss.” – said Steve Sullivan just before departure.

The planned stops, weather permitting, are Niagara Falls, NY; Houghton, MI on the Upper Peninsula; Mobridge, SD; Yellowstone NP, MT; Glacier NP, MT; Walla Walla, WA; Gleneden, OR; Sacramento, CA; Grand Canyon NP, AZ; Sierra Vista, AZ; Alpine, TX; San Antonio, TX; Houma, LA; Apalachicola, LA; Key West, FL; Brunswick, GA; Newport News, VA; Rehoboth, DE; and home to Newton, MA.

Too often pilots finish their training and then become distracted and disengaged from the flying community. The result is a dangerous lack of proficiency and or the loss of support to the flying community as a whole. IMC Club was established to mitigate this issue by providing a means to reengage pilots with other pilots and instructors. IMC club is coaching, training, mentoring and helping pilots to fly in actual instrument meteorological conditions.

Regular bi-weekly meetings where pilots and instructors have the opportunity to engage and discuss topics related to instrument flying are combined with actual mission flights where members fly missions designed on a graduated scale of complexity.
