Xiris Receives IRAP Grant

July 29, 2010 - PRLog -- Xiris Automation Inc., a supplier of automatic inspection equipment to the global Photovoltaic manufacturing industry, announced today that it has been selected by the Canadian National Research Council as the recipient of an Industrial Research Assistance Program grant to further develop an Electroluminescence Quality Control Test System to measure the quality of Solar (Photovoltaic) Cells and Modules.

Xiris provides a number of inspection systems for assuring quality control in Photovoltaic manufacturing; this project will develop the next generation test system using Electroluminescence (EL) technology to determine the integrity of a Photovoltaic Cell or Module by detecting mechanical defects such as cracks or chips; and electrical defects such as shorts, breaks or shunts in the electrical circuit. An EL system could provide advantages of accuracy, reliability, versatility and cost for defect detection. Various defects would be detected with such technology prior to further value being added to the cell in the manufacturing process and help determine the longevity of the cell when in use.
