July 15, 2010 - PRLog -- CTRL Systems, Inc. received notification today that the U.S. Navy placed the CTRL UL101 Ultrasound Detector on the Test Design Engineer Allowance Equipment List.  The UL101 was also added to the Maintenance Requirement Cards of 6 different applications, indicating it will be required for use on all class subs.

Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) 07T organized and oversaw testing for the UL101.  Many of the applications identified by the Submarine Fleet overlap applications established by the Navy Surface Fleet. Some of NAVSEA’s tests included side-by-side inspections with another ultrasonic detector.  The tests were conducted to investigate abilities and limitations of ultrasonic technology.  The results indicated several areas where the UL101 would be used to significantly decrease man-hour labor.

Early implementation of the technology has already helped the U.S. Navy save millions of dollars annually.  Some of the applications include: pressure & vacuum leak detection, by-pass leaks in critical valves, inspection of gaskets and seals in hatches, early signs of wear of critical equipment, detection of electrical arcing, and as a general trouble-shooting tool.

“The U.S. Navy, and the U.S. Military in general, continues to explore integration of CTRL technology to marine, aviation, and wheel/track applications.  This is another big step towards fielding and integration to specific programs and tasks for fleet readiness,” said Robert Roche, president of CTRL Systems, Inc.
