| Adelphi School of Business Faculty Receive Bender Awards for their ResearchAdelphi is pleased to congratulate the winners of the 2010 Bender Research Fellowship Awards. Professor of Management Jeffrey Goldstein’s work was honored with the Three Year Body of Work Award, while four others received the Best Paper Awards.

About the Winners: Dr. Goldstein of Stony Creek, CT joined Adelphi’s School of Business in 1989 to teach management courses and became full professor in 2004. He has served in various non-academic positions including director of training and education at Intercare Health Systems in Edison, NJ and Thresholds Program in Philadelphia, PA. The author of numerous scholarly works, he has published more than 10 books and book-length manuscripts, more than 30 publications in refereed journals, and more than 20 chapters in scholarly books. Dr. Goldstein holds a Ph.D. in the social scientific study of religion and a master’s degree in the psychology of religion from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Prottas of New York, NY has been teaching management and human resources courses at Adelphi’s School of Business since 2005. The author of three book chapters, and 15 refereed journal articles, he has presented more than 20 papers at various conferences. Prior to teaching, he spent two decades in financial services as a commercial and investment banker. Dr. Prottas holds a Ph.D. in organizational behavior and human resource management from City University of New York. Dr. Sheng of Syosset, NY has been teaching marketing courses at Adelphi since 2004. The author of ten refereed scholarly articles, Dr. Sheng has received the Best Paper Bender Award four years consecutively, since 2006. Additionally, he has served on Adelphi University Campus Planning Committee since 2006; on the Adelphi University Institutional Review Board (IRB) Committee since 2005; and on the International Studies Committee since 2010. Dr. Sheng has also taught abroad as visiting professor, at Université Pierre Mendes France of Grenoble (May 2010); The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (December 2009); and RGA & Advertising Education Foundation (July 2008). Dr. Sheng holds a doctoral degree in marketing from Virginia Tech. Dr. Silberstang of New York, NY joined Adelphi’s School of Business in 2005, where she teaches business, management and communication courses. Throughout her career Dr. Silberstang has advised senior executives on individual, group and organizational learning, assessment and change. She held various non-academic roles, including president of Organizational Consulting Services in Washington, DC, vice president of training and development of Fields Consulting Group in Fairfax, VA, and director of a boutique consulting firm in Sterling, VA, among other positions. A prolific scholar, Dr. Silberstang has co-edited a book, written book chapters, refereed journal articles and technical reports, and has given numerous presentations to business and academic audiences. Dr. Silberstang holds a Ph.D. in industrial/organizational psychology from The George Washington University. This is the second award that Dr. Silberstang has received for this paper. Dr. Zhang of Garden City, NY has taught decision science at Adelphi since 2010. Prior to that, he taught at Case Western Reserve University and Cleveland State University in Cleveland, OH, as well as Haidian Community College in Beijing, China. Professor Zhang has also held positions as group manager for the Xin Highway Information Center and as engineer for the Electronic Technology Information Research Institute in Beijing, China. The author of 10 refereed journal articles and five refereed presentations, Dr. Zhang has received several grants, including the Adelphi University Faculty Development Grant for 2009-2010 and for 2007-2008, and served as member of the Adelphi University Business School AACSB Learning Assurances Subcommittee; The Bender Awards are named for James Bender, founding dean of Adelphi University School of Business. Dean Bender was associated with Adelphi for more than 25 years in various capacities, and bestowed a generous endowment upon the University to fund the awards. The two categories of the Bender Award are the Three Year Body of Work Award and the Best Paper Award, for which full-time faculty in the School of Business are eligible to submit papers for review. The entries are judged for quality of writing and potential to make an impact on the discipline.
