Its fan base grows with 3,000 ebooks and counting. The story follows three characters in 1991 Chicago, the year the Cold War ended. Distribution channels now make it available to 25 countries in Europe and Asia. Find out why it's a must-read.

June 27, 2010 - PRLog -- When former Chicagoan Doug Shiloh wrote POOKOO, a novel written in English, he set out to write a novel that gave the reader a true experience of America in the early 1990s. That America, with a love of sports, reality TV, celebrity obsession, still holds true today. The author also knew that it was destined to be made into a film.

The novelist, who is working on a 9-11 novel now, is a distant relative to such American icons as Thomas Paine (Founding Father and author of "Common Sense", which kick started the Revolutionary War) and Wild West legend (O.K. Corral) Doc Holliday.

POOKOO has been available as a Kindle download or paperback in North America since 2008.

POOKOO follows a trio of friends: Katlin Hillmacher, the ex-Olympian with good looks, athletic talent and fans who follow him with fever. Julie Martin, a "prairie soul" who is a bank loan manager and Katlin's girlfriend. Rounding out the trio is narrator Pete Warner - Katlin's friend. Although in a failing marriage, Pete's in love with Julie.

And then there's the part about the 6-foot lobster. It includes interesting side characters. Oh, and a sex scandal that pre-dates the recent Tiger Woods debacle by 2 years.

The action of POOKOO follows the three 20-somethings as they reach the 30s. It's the year 1991 in Chicago. It zings arrows of truth and crackling quips of humor as its nicotine and alcohol tinged story hurtles to the end.

"The story is so true to life, not in just "how it is" but it could be used as a guidebook to Chicago," said Mike Pace of Homefield Multimedia. "In fact, Doug is looking into giving small, up close and personal guided group tours of Chicago which includes points of interest in the book."

Which fits into Shiloh's aim for literature of the 21st century.

Pace continued. "People want to be embedded into the action, like backstage passes or reality TV. But what better way than to trace the footsteps with the book's creator? Imagine visiting Paris with Hemingway, stopping at the cafes and all the haunts? This is how one can visit Chicago."

Which might make a trip to Chicago for travelers even more appealing.

Now, the rambunctious take on America in the early 1990s can ship to all points on the globe: the United Arab Emirates, Australia, Belgium, Bahrain, Switzerland, China, Germany, Spain, Finland, France, Hong Kong, Indonesia, India, Japan, Kenya, Kuwait, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Thailand, and South Africa.

"One day I see it being made for Bollywood or French or German cinema," Shiloh said. "If the Americans don't get it first. It was always meant to be turned into a film."
