AVEVA Academic Initiative - boost to chemical engineering programmes in MalaysiaKUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, June 21, 2010, AVEVA Group plc (LSE:AVV) announced that it is in collaboration with two Malaysian universities offering courses related to chemical plant engineering and design.
By: AVEVA Group Plc, Asia Pacific MARA Institute of Chemical & Bio-Engineering Technology or MICET, and the Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) have both incorporated AVEVA PDMS into their Chemical Engineering curriculum. Associate Professor Zulkafli bin Hassan, Dean of Faculty of Chemical & Natural Resources Engineering, Universiti Malaysia Pahang, said: “UMP's programmes are designed to serve the needs of the industry. Interactions with our partners especially the oil and gas industry suggests the importance and relevance of the PDMS software. The faculty plans to incorporate the use of PDMS both within and outside the curriculum. Specifically, incorporating a subject such as Plant Design, a capstone subject for the Chemical Engineering discipline, is planned. Towards this end, trainings or short courses will be conducted to enable students to acquire necessary skills to use this software. Furnishing these students with the right exposure and training will be an added value, making them more marketable in the industry”. Peter Finch, President, AVEVA Asia Pacific, said: “AVEVA is pleased to support Malaysian universities and their programmes aimed at training undergraduates with industry tools and solutions. Those trained in AVEVA solutions will have a good head start as AVEVA PDMS is widely used to design and build plants owned by many of the top-quoted chemical and petrochemical companies.” Ends Media Contact: Youli Hooi Marketing Communications Manager Tel: +603-2176 1234 youli.hooi@aveva.com www.aveva.com About AVEVA Group Plc AVEVA is trusted around the world for delivering engineering design and information management solutions with compelling value propositions to leading companies in the plant and marine industries. About the AVEVA Academic Initiative Skills shortages continue to be a challenge in most engineering companies and it will take some time for the recent increases in the number of engineering students at universities and technical colleges to overcome the generation gap that currently exists in the market. In recognition of this, and in addition to its own in-house graduate recruitment schemes, AVEVA will continue to work with educational establishments and government bodies around the world to support initiatives aimed at narrowing the skills gap. In particular, AVEVA will continue to: a. Work with universities and technical institutes to promote the use of AVEVA products within undergraduate courses and postgraduate research projects; b. Work with government agencies to re-skill engineers from other disciplines; c. Work with engineering bodies to encourage school leavers to pursue careers in engineering.
