Carolina Consulting Ltd Investigates Why People Stay in Job They Don't Enjoy

A recent survey revealed 48% of people are unhappy in the jobs. Carolina Consulting Ltd questions, Why don't people give up their comfortable jobs and do something more fulfilling instead?

June 14, 2010 - PRLog -- Many at the age of 21 have graduated from university after years of studying a field most have dreamt of doing since a young age.  At what point to people start to question whether they really want to be the lawyer/doctor/teacher they have worked so hard to become.

It's common for people to find themselves in a job or on a career path that sounds exciting as a new graduate, but how many consider, does my work make me happy?  And for those that do, how many change their career path and move towards a completely new industry?

It's a scary thought of some. Many feel they let their parents, partners or themselves down if they choose a career that has little relevance to their area of study or previous experience.  Most individuals like the idea of 'security' in a field where they have some background knowledge.  As Carolina Consulting Ltd investigates it becomes clear that for most comfort is confused with security.  ''Everyone has a comfort zone and it is natural for people to be drawn to things that make them feel secure and safe, even if it doesn't really make them completely happy. Many people will work their entire lives at a job they really don't enjoy doing, simply because it provides them with a secure income and benefits that help meet their basic needs in life.'' says Career Coach.
Why settle for the basics in life?  Individuals, who make a change in career, demonstrate ambition and confidence; they are individuals who will generally be more successful than the average person.

Whether it's a change in career or choosing to pursue a role unrelated to your degree, consider the following:

Can I transfer my current skills?  Ensure you are aware of the skills you have and are fully capable of transferring them to a new career.

Will the benefits outweigh the challenge of learning a new industry?  Make sure the work environment is diverse, question is the commute to work closer, Ask what sort of training, professional and personal growth is offered, consider the social interaction involved in the new role.

In recent years it seems women are starting to take a stronger stance on this topic.  Since 1990, the proportion of women moving from permanent to self-employment has increased to more that 33%.  The Office for National Statistics found that nearly triple the amount of people leave their jobs voluntarily than involuntarily.

When it comes to planning a career change and outlining goals that will enable the change to take place, setting up for success is important right from the start. Having the best intentions is not what will get to final destination. The only way to be successful when changing careers and get to the where you want to go is to grab hold of the wheel and take control of your life.

If people can free themselves from their own expectations, the world - as Hilda Ogden once so rightly said is your lobster.  Why not take a bite?  --End--
