Template vs Custom Web Sites

Hey why spend $500.00 - $2500.00 dollars on a website, when you can get a template for $65.00 - $75.00 or even free on some websites....... Well the truth of the matter is there are advantages and disadvantages to both depending on various factors.

June 14, 2010 - PRLog -- What is a website template? Well...in attempts to avoid any sarcasm. a website template is a pre-arranged/designed website that the user may purchase or download from websites such as templatemonster.com, freewebsitetemplates, templates247, and etc. Once the website is downloaded on your computer then the template is modified to suit your needs by using programs such as dreamweaver, flash, photoshop, and etc....

What is a custom website? It is a website constructed from the ground up using specific customized graphics, navigation, and styling formats to fit the customers request.

Here are the advantages and disadvantages:

PRICE

Templates: Range 0 - $65 avg.
Template Modification: Range $200 - $500
Purchase Exclusive: $1500.00 - $4500.00

Advantage: Potentially inexpensive website and confidence in appearance of the web site.
Disadvantage: Limited functionality (unless incur additional fees to add to template), Non-exclusivity, Potential difficulties during update & modifications.

Custom (5 page): Range $500 - $5000.00 (prices are based on minimum flash or html)

Advantage: Unlimited functionality, Various coding capabilities, Simple upgrade/modification,
Disadvantage: Price

BUSINESS STRATEGIES:

As mentioned before, both have its advantages and disadvantages. Here, I think it depends on to what degree your web presence affects your bottom line. If you have a business that is web intensive, meaning the lion share of your customer base is informed about your goods and services or procures your goods and services primarily through your website, then the custom route is the way to go. Why? Because when your customers depend on your website to patronize your business, you need to be able to provide them with the functionality to make their web experience as painless and as simple as possible. Furthermore, efficient updates, and maintenance are of the utmost importance.
On the other hand, if you are a new business or your business is not as web intensive, then a template is probably the best way to go. Why? Because a template will allow you to have a decent web presence with out investing much capital. Further, unfortunately but true... over 50% of new business fail within the first 6 months; to some its worth taking a hard honest look at your business and your willingness to invest in your business to overcome the 6 month landmark. Thereby, postponing the purchase of a custom website until you feel comfortable regarding the chance that your business will be profitable, in order to make such a substantial investment.

At Heroes of Web Design we will build your web presence with the latest advancements and innovations, whether you choose a template or a custom website. We hope this was helpful to you and your business and we look forward to hearing and working with you.
