KC Dickson, California State Senate Candidate, Thoughts and Reflections on this Election

June 7, 2010 - PRLog -- To: My Friends and Potential Voters in the 36th Senate District,

Tomorrow we have our chance to send a resounding message to the political class that has made such a mess of the government here in California.  For too long, from too many quarters and at all levels, we have heard about government FOR the people and too little about government OF the people and BY the people.  We still can control our government but it depends totally on who we will send to represent us.

Our civic right and responsibility is to be actively engaged in protecting our God-given freedoms; and lest we forget, every dollar taxed away and transferred by government is an erosion of someone’s freedom.  Do not misunderstand, limited government is also God-given for stability with freedom; but when civic responsibility gives way to apathy and lack of information, “politics as usual” results.  “Politics as usual” is about the lust for power, pride, and self preservation in office.  “Politicians” are obsessed with self-importance, groomed and practiced in the craft of deception, distraction, denial, and in shifting accountability.  They are motivated above all by self preservation, personal advantage and they will do and say nearly anything to keep and add to their political power.

Contrast that with individuals who strive to maintain their integrity and moral character.  These individuals will possess a strong desire to serve others while recognizing their own imperfections and limitations.  These representatives should also have demonstrated long standing honesty, humility, practice of the golden rule, and have a record of putting country/community before self.  Historically they are known as statesmen.  Intellectual brilliance and academic degrees are optional; simple character is not.  Neither is love of freedom for all people and the willingness to sacrifice one’s own personal interests for it.

Finally, past accomplishments and individual behavior are the best indicators of future behavior. Mere words, slick advertising and bold, unrealistic  promises are just that.   Now is our opportunity to begin to heal our state.  Please consider your precious part in that as we move forward and vote your principles.  Together we must, we can and we shall do better in Sacramento.
