June 7, 2010 - PRLog -- Is $6,000 the most expensive shower curtain you can buy? Not by half. In the highest of the high end fabric industry, fabric can sell for $3,000 plus a yard. And it takes around 10 yards to make a decent shower curtain. Then add in the craftsman ship of the artists sewing the curtains and soon you are talking about real money.

Why is the fabric so expensive? Because it is hand made by people who spend their lives perfecting the art of making fabric.  The artist manually weaves the fabric on a loom and may have to stay at the machine until the entire production run is finished or risk not having the weave stay the same.

Other fabrics have custom prints, patterns, or color finishing that is hand stamped with custom paint combinations created by artists and unique patterns carved into wooden blocks. The smallest mistake can ruin an entire length of cloth.

There is custom monogramming, custom stitching, and don’t forget the accessories. How about a $400.00 set of hand crafted tassels to decorate the curtains?

Cotoure fabrics and their application are a specialization that blends the necessary talents of an artist and an interior decorator. The types of weaves and fabric combinations are applied to different situations. Satin is a type of weave, not a fabric and is woven from silk, polyester, acetate, or even blends of fibers. Jacquard is a woven fabric that is often mistaken for a specific type of weaving material but it is another type of woven fabric that can be made from a variety of materials. Each material selected for the weave is going to contribute to the feel and drape of the fabric.

The wealthy people that can afford such luxuries are on social strata the most people cannot even visualize. $6,000 for a shower curtain? If you have spent $20 million on a new condo, decorating it at Wal-mart is not an option.
