Follow on Google News | EnviroSafe Technologies Announces Breakthrough Mosquito Attractant the Mega-Catch 3000 Combo LureDescribed as aromatherapy for mosquitoes, the Mega-Catch™ 3000 combination lure is the company’s latest weapon to help ‘fight the bite’ from the world's most invasive species; the aggressive, disease-carrying, Asian tiger mosquito.
By: Heather Bradbury In tests conducted by USDA entomologist Dr Daniel Kline in November 2004, the capture of various mosquito species (including Aedes albopictus, Anopheles quadrimaculatus, Anopheles crucian, Culex erraticus, Culex nigripalpus, Culex quinquifasciatus, Culex tarsalis, and Ochlerotatus atlanticus) using traps baited with a combination of Octenol and lactic acid was two to three times greater than traps baited with Octenol alone. "We feel that you can use attractants in a trapping strategy to divert mosquitoes away from biting people." says Dr Kline. "If you can keep them from biting people you can stop the disease transmission" The Asian tiger mosquito is medically significant because of its aggressive daytime biting behavior and ability to transmit debilitating, even deadly diseases. In laboratory settings the Asian tiger has been found to be a successful vector of over 30 arboviruses including dengue fever, chikungunya, various strains of encephalitis and West Nile virus. The breakthrough aromatic mosquito attractant was developed specifically to enhance the existing design features of all Mega-Catch™ traps so as to increase capture rates of nuisance mosquitoes including the Asian tiger. Mega-Catch™ “This new lure will literally be a godsend for those people living in areas where the Asian tiger is now rampant,” predicts Bremner. About Mega-Catch™ Independently and scientifically tested, Mega-Catch™ mosquito traps consistently outperform other brands: Test Results: 1. Dr Daniel Kline, PhD, research entomologist, USDA Gainesville Florida. “Large Cage and Field Comparison Tests of Mega-Catch™ and Mosquito Magnet™ Traps”. 2. Dr J P Smith PhD, B.C.E. (Florida A&M University), J Walsh & R Huss. “Comparison of Mosquito Species and Numbers Caught in Eight Commercial Mosquito Traps”. Available for download from the Public Health Entomology Research & Education Center (PHEREC) of Florida University website. 3. Dr Scott A. Ritchie, PhD (University of Florida) & Dr Craig R. Williams, PhD (University of South Australia) “Ultra Out-Catches Mosquito Magnet Pro”. The company developed and patented the Variable Quantity Slow CO2 Gas Release system used in the ULTRA trap. Designed to mimic human respiration, it has been shown to increase capture rates of most mosquito species by as much as 300-400%. Mega-Catch™ mosquito traps are safe, non-toxic and eco-friendly, and don’t require the use of harmful pesticides, fogs or sprays to kill mosquitoes. # # # EnviroSafe Technologies, a privately held company based in Auckland New Zealand developed one of the first environmentally friendly mosquito traps. Now an established global brand, Mega-Catch™ mosquito traps have been sold to over 40 countries around the world including Australia, Singapore, Sweden, Norway, Italy, Argentina, Canada and the U.S.A.
