Newton Abbot Racing To Support Your Local

May 20, 2010 - PRLog -- With the alarming rate of pubs closing in the UK each week, Newton Abbot Racecourse have introduced a Landlords’ Day initiative to help support publicans in the South West.

The racecourse have introduced a scheme allowing landlords to strengthen their relationship with their customers and reward their customers’ loyalty, alongside raising their brand awareness.The objective of the scheme was to support landlords in the long term, alongside driving footfall to their pubs on a traditionally quieter evening.

Landlords were encouraged to organise a party of race-goers from their pub to the Monday afternoon racing fixture on May 17th. The initiative allowed landlords to give something back to their customers as the Landlords’ Day offer of Paddock Enclosure entry, race card, £10 betting offer plus a free pint and a pork roll was exclusively available through pubs.

Alongside enjoying a day at the races with their customers, the 6 pubs with the largest parties also won a race sponsorship, giving them extensive brand awareness at the racecourse and in the press through the racing coverage.

In addition to winning a sponsored race, the Par Inn, from Cornwall, also won a complementary raceday for their whole party later in the season, as they organised the largest party of racegoers.

Matt Bailey, Landlord at the Par Inn said: “Landlords’ Day was just fantastic. It proved to be so popular with my customers that I had to secure extra tickets at the last minute. We arranged for a coach to take everyone to the racecourse and back and organised a band later in the evening at the pub. We were incredibly busy when we returned and all of my customers thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon. It was a brilliant day all around.”

Pat Masterson, Managing Director at Newton Abbot commented: “Landlords have really embraced the initiative. We’ve had pubs from as far away as Par in Cornwall coming along. They appear to be really maximising the opportunity with many organising transport to and from their pubs and also providing food and entertainment later in the evening when they return from the races.”
