Chicago Department of Family & Support Services Presents the Best Of Serendipity at Millennium Park

May 19, 2010 - PRLog -- As part of Chicago’s continuing celebration of Older Americans Month, the Chicago Department of Family and Support Services (DFSS), Senior Services Area Agency on Aging presents “The Best of Serendipity” at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park on May 19 and 20 from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m.  In its seventh year of production, Serendipity celebrates Chicago seniors on stage through song, music and dance routines spanning nearly 50 years.  Approximately 4,500 seniors are expected to attend this year’s event.  

“DFSS’ Senior Services Area Agency on Aging provides a range of year round activities that enhance seniors lives—mind, body and spirit,” said Mary Ellen Caron, Ph.D., commissioner, Chicago Department of Family and Support Services.  “The Best of Serendipity provides Chicagoans with the ideal opportunity to celebrate Older Americans Month by demonstrating the range of their performance arts talents.”  

This year’s showcase features performances by Chicago’s most talented seniors including the City of Chicago Senior Clown Troupe, which brings together senior volunteers who perform in nursing homes and at city events throughout the year and special multigenerational performances by After School Matters students.  The Michael Lerich Orchestra will perform all musical accompaniments for each artist.  The Best of Serendipity is an all ages show and tickets are free to the public.      

Millennium Park is located in the heart of downtown Chicago.  It is bordered by Michigan Avenue to the west, Columbus Drive to the east, Randolph Street to the north and Monroe Street to the south.  Convenient parking is located in the Millennium Park Garage (entrance on Columbus at Monroe or Randolph) and at the Grant Park North and East Monroe garages, all located within a short walking distance to Millennium Park.  

DFSS’ 18 Senior Centers offer year round resources, services and programs that promote healthy and independent lifestyles.  Among the centers’ core programs and services are fitness, health and educational activities as well as meals, trips and a wide range of life enrichment classes.  Additional programming is developed based on feedback to meet the specific needs and interests of the seniors within their respective communities.
