For people who are key decision makers from within the Indian Automotive supplier industry.  The event was a huge success with participants from various automotive Suppliers taking active interest in the seminar.
The automotive OEMs can optimise their product designs if their vendors/suppliers also do the same, proving to be beneficial to both parties by increasing their profit share.  Keeping all this in consideration, mid-sized manufacturers are now shifting their efforts from the traditional trial and error methods to a simulation (CAE) based integrated value engineering approach. By doing this the mid-sized manufacturers who possess product / tool design capabilities will be able to add more value to the OEM’s for parts/systems that they supply.

The focus of the discussion was on leveraging the use of optimization Technology called OptiStruct, available from our global partner Altair. OptiStruct helps Automotive R&D engineers to optimize their components without compromising on the Engineering stability and integrity. This product design based Value Engineering approach can be used to make engineering product development processes far more efficient and effective. It helps save/optimize material weight, thereby impacting product cost and directly improving bottom lines.
The seminar started with an introduction about what challenges the mid-size manufacturers are facing and the importance of dealing with them at the right time with appropriate methods. The economy today is bouncing back and the slowdown last year has forced many industries (especially automotive) examine and improve their current business models.  Facing global competition has become the order of the day, laying more stress on the need to design, develop & manufacture products in less cost & time, without compromising on the quality front. This comes as a challenge to most automotive companies.  However, with the help & adoption of the latest software technologies like virtual simulation & validation from Altair - HyperWorks suites of solutions, this is not a distant dream anymore.

During the course of the seminar, the speakers from leading OEM’s and suppliers discussed a case study on use of OptiStruct for designing light-weight components as well use of Stamping Simulation using HyperForm. All of these will significantly impact the supplier competency and profitability.
