May 6, 2010 - PRLog -- “In a good education system, evaluation must happen right inside the classroom. Research studies have repeatedly shown that responses to learning are instantaneous,” said G.Balasubramanian, former director of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

Pointing out that technology integration can happen at various levels such as in content, pedagogy and evaluation, he said, “Information Technology can be leveraged to create an effective learning environment.”

Mr.Balasubramanian was speaking at a seminar on ‘Technologies in education,' organised by Innovative Education Concepts (IEC) here on Saturday. Principals of various city schools and educationists participated in the programme.

Teacher training curriculum must be totally revisited in the context of modern learners, said Mr. Balasubramanian, as the sheer magnitude of informal learning which happens must be taken into account.

“There is need for a fresh air of thinking. We need to equip teachers so that they will be able to synergise formal and informal means of learning,” he added.

Kartar Singh, Deputy Director (South India), British Council, said, “Millions of students coming out of colleges are not able to use the opportunities the country is offering due to lack of communication skills or confidence.”

The seminar emphasised the use of new technologies in learning and writing in the English language.

IEC showcased NetPC, a virtual computing device for language lab setups in schools.
