I’ve had my Apple iPad for several days now, and one of the apps I love is Zillow, the iPad version of Zillow.com.

Zillow for the iPad (a free app) puts a huge amount of information literally at your fingertips. You can pinch to zoom in or out on a map showing properties that are for sale, recently sold, or are offered as make me move. ‘Make me move’ means the property isn’t officially on the market but the owners will entertain offers at a certain price. You can flick through thumbnails images, too, which is an easy way to quick a get look at the houses for sale in a specific neighborhood. Zillow for the iPad is an impressive and extremely useful tool for homebuyers, Realtors, or anyone interested in getting quick comps on homes in their neighborhood.

Some other apps related to real estate and home ownership for the iPad and iPhone worth checking out:

ZipRealty (free) for the iPhone has a cool feature called HomeScan. Hold your iPhone up and immediately discover which homes nearby are for sale or recently sold. You can click a listing to get more information about it, such as asking price and photos. HomeScan uses the iPhone’s built-in camera. Because the iPad lacks a camera, ZipRealty on the iPad doesn’t offer the HomeScan feature. Also, some reviewers on iTunes complain that the ZipRealty iPhone app is slow to load pictures and sometimes crashes.

Corcoran (free; iPhone only) is a slick app providing useful information about the Corcoran Group Real Estate broker’s listings in New York, the Hamptons, and South Florida.

Sherwin-Williams ColorSnap (free; iPhone only) lets you match colors in a photo you’ve just snapped on your iPhone to any of the 1,500 colors of Sherwin-Williams paints.

iHandy Carpenter ($2; iPhone only) has earned lots of positive reviews (from the likes of CNN). It combines virtual versions of five carpenter tools: a plumb bob, surface level, bubble level bar, steel protractor, and steel ruler.

Mortgage Calculator Pro ($1; iPhone only) puts a handy mortgage calculator in your pocket.
