Real Madrid beats Valencia with a goal from Ronaldo

Real Madrid beat Valencia tonight 2-0 and closed the gap on Barcelona’s lead at the top of the standings in the Spanish league.

April 18, 2010 - PRLog -- In the first half the “Merengues”, always driven by the Cristiano Ronaldo plays, were superior in all aspects of the game, reaching halftime with a 1-0 advantage, when Higuain scored the first at 25 minutes after a nice pass by Guti.

With this advantage, Pellegrini’s team slowed down in the second half and Valencia took control of the match, with striker David Silva, having the best opportunity to score at 72 minutes when his powerful shot was slightly out of target as it hit the bar.

With seven minutes remaining in the game, Ronaldo scored his 20th in the Spanish league after an excellent move for Marcelo on the left who passed the ball to the centre of the area where Cristiano Ronaldo the Portugal and Real striker appeared like a dart and kicked past César, the Valencia keeper, making it 2-0.

Manuel Pellegrini bet on the same team that won the last game against Almería and once again without Kaká, who is still out of the squad due to injury.

With this win, Real took advantage of this golden opportunity to get closer to their main rivals, after Barca tied 0-0 against Espanyol yesterday, in the city of Barcelona derby. Real Madrid now has 83 points, one less than Barcelona. Valencia still holds third place with eight games remaining till the end of the season.

Ronaldo says Messi is “probably” the best in the world.

The Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has admitted in an interview published today by the British paper “News of the World” that Lionel Messi is “probably” the best player in the world and Barcelona the best team.

Asked if Leo Messi was the best player in the world, Cristiano Ronaldo, the Portugal captain replied “probably yes”, then added: “Messi has played fantastically this year and last year. He has been incredible, but his team, in my opinion, has helped him a lot”

Also according to the Portuguese, Messi has still not won anything for his national team, just like himself: “Messi has never won anything with Argentina and I never won anything with Portugal, so we have to prove during the World Cup that we are the best players in the World”.
