Bottega’s Elixir 0, The Non-alcoholic Bitters

Distilleria Bottega launches Elixir 0, a non-alcoholic herbal bitter whose special characteristics are the aromatic nature of its ingredients and the absence of alcohol. A product perfect for those who wants to drive after eating.

April 12, 2010 - PRLog -- Distilleria Bottega, always attentive to the "drink well, be well" slogan and the conscious consumption of wines and distillates, is launching a product of innovative concept based on aloe and alpine herbs.

Called “Elixir 0,” it is an herbal bitter whose special characteristics are the aromatic nature of its ingredients and the absence of alcohol. A non-alcoholic bitter that might attract the  non-drinkers, the health-conscious, the gourmet, those who after having enjoyed the pleasures of the table, must sit behind the steering-wheel, and also those who do not drink alcohol for other reasons like religion.

With this product, the Treviso-based company offers the ritual of a digestive shot after meals, to those who do not want to risk their drivers’ licenses, and who not knowing the real impact of the alcohol limit in their bodies, choose not to drink full alcoholic beverages. This fear is deeply felt by Italians and has in fact led to a decrease in consumption, in the last two years, solely by the so-called conscious consumers, that is, those who once in a while accompany lunch or dinner with two glasses of wine or a sip of distillate, in order to keep full lucidity.

In 2009 Aua (Associazione Utenti Auto- Association Auto Users) and Distilleria Bottega submitted data on the ISTAT-ACI about road accidents that occurred during 2007.  The purpose of this initiative was to make known that casualties resulting from driving under the influence represent a very small percentage (2.09%) of the total. Indeed, out of  292.746 motor vehicle accidents, only 6.124 were due to alcohol abuse. Therefore, it is an excessive media campaign that also criminalizes the mere consumption of a glass of wine, and is putting at risk an entire industry, symbolized by Made in Italy.

This position does not want to underestimate the risk of driving under the influence of alcohol, but to explain that the current law, which sets the blood alcohol limit at 0.5 g / l, constitutes a valid protection and guarantees total safety on the roads. The social worry about “Saturday evening deaths” is a phenomenon that cannot be stopped just with the decree laws, but with a policy of widespread control by the police, particularly during the day and at more sensitive times (Saturday and Sunday, between night and dawn). Also, not only is it essential to regulate the consumption of drinks based on taurine or of intoxicating substances in general, but it is also important to begin a consumption education program.
