Sioux Falls SNIP Encourages Basic Obedience Training

Jess Thovson, APDT owner of Dog Training by Jess, encourages donations to Sioux Falls SNIP by offering free basic obedience course for dogs.

April 6, 2010 - PRLog -- Donors who contribute $50 or more to local spay / neuter program, Sioux Falls SNIP, can sign up for 8 weeks of free basic obedience training courtesy of Dog Training by Jess. Classes will be held once weekly June through July in Sioux Falls. There are two options for sign up; Thursday evening or Saturday mornings. Class sizes are limited so donors are encouraged to register early.

Trainer Jess Thovson, APDT (Association of Pet Dog Trainers ), believes training can be a lasting benefit to owners and dogs.

"Training is important for many reasons;  it helps strengthen  the dog-owner bond, makes your dog more enjoyable, and helps him to be a better neighbor to name a few. But most importantly, a trained dog is more likely to stay with its family rather than end up in a shelter. "

Thovson approached Sioux Falls SNIP to offer donors this course as a thank you for supporting spay and neuter in their community.

"Spaying and neutering has many health benefits for our pets and helps keep animals out of shelters but is sometimes overlooked because people can't afford it. SNIP helps those owners who may not have had their pets spayed/neutered for that reason. I think its great to have a program like this to help out and would like to see them be able to help as many animals as possible." says Thovson.

SDCCA President Jennifer McNamara is grateful for the support.

"We want to encourage responsible owners. Spay and neuter is part of that, but training your dog helps complete the picture. We couldn't continue our program with out donations from the public and with Jess' help we can thank those willing to make a difference in their community."
