France Telecom and Ethiopian incumbent ETC signs a management deal

April 1, 2010 - PRLog -- A century after Emperor Menelik decided that such a vital communications network ought to be managed by a native, Ethiopia’s incumbent telco and state-run monopoly, ETC has now reportedly handed over to a foreign company. In fact, according to sources close to the file, last week, managers of ETC signed a deal with senior officers of France Telecom – led by Stéphane Richard the newly appointed CEO- which aimed at transferring the management of the Ethiopian Telecommunications Corporation to the European giant operator.

Under the agreement, France Telecom will manage ETC for three years on behalf of the Ethiopian Government and will be paid in return an annual fee, with a possibility of revenues sharing from enhanced services.

If approved by the Council of Ministers in Ethiopia, the deal will mark a new start for the country’s incumbent telco which will join companies in 32 countries where France Telecom operates.
