How to Set Goals & What is Missing From "The Secret"

Do you need some new beliefs. Ones that can replace the one's that are holding you back?

March 23, 2010 - PRLog -- You've seen "The Secret" and you understand what they are telling you.

I am guessing you sat down and spent hours on your vision board. Found a pretty place for it on your wall, maybe so you can see it every moment. You have set your goals in the present tense and you have "detached" (you think) and now you are just waiting to receive your good....

and waiting..... and waiting...
Oh My God, is this ever going to work?

Well, YES! Here's the thing.

In The Secret movie, I want you to remember where the guy kept his vision board. Say it out loud.

"IT WAS IN A PACKING CRATE FOR YEARS".

Before you say, oh, it was just that vision board, if the guy had more, he'd have taken "honey" to another room to show him or just spoken frankly about the board with the pretty pictures.

So, first things first... My vision board is neatly tucked behind my filing cabinet. It's out of the way, out of my sight and out of the sight of everyone else. make certain yours is too!

Do your friends wish you well in your quest for the Bentley Continental? Outwardly, yes. Even inwardly, mostly. But I bet at some level they feel as though if you get what you are aiming for they will lose you.

At some level, they exert a negative energy. Even close family and your best friends. Your personal goals and your vision boards are private. Keep them to yourself.

Secondly, how exactly do you detach from a montage of dreams continually within eyesight? Well you can not. I just love it when the guys and girls tell you that you need to "detach". They don't tell you how. In fact, they tell you how not to!

So now we are getting into territory that in just this one subject we could write a long book.

I just can't write now!

so here's a couple of quick tips

1. Do your vision board and hide it away. Pack it in a box, stick it in a cupboard or like me, put it behind the filing cabinet. (Mine actually fell from my wall. I propped it on a chair for two days while I thought about that. I told a friend. Both his and his wife's vision boards fell off the wall at the same time. We took it as a sign)

Here's an idea. Do a "vision photo album". Once you do it, close the book and put it with your other photo albums.

2. Set goals properly. Present tense as if you already have achieved the goal. I could write on this forever, but the main things are

a) be specific ... write it out

b) Have an end evidence (How do you know you have made it? Make it good!)

c) visualize, stepping in to your end evidence first

d) look at you end evidence through your own eyes, taking in not just the sights but the sounds. The people, what they are saying to you, the feelings, what you say, your tone of voice, having achieved this goal. The full celebration. Then step out of the picture, leaving yourself in the picture. Take a mental photograph of the whole picture. Then imagine floating out to your goal date and dropping the photo into that date. Look back to now to see how everything that needed to happened fell into place to ensure your goal was inevitable. Then look to the bright future.

3. Don't ask for the same thing over and over again. If you think about your goal, don't ask, just be thankful that it is in your life now. It will arrive. What I mean here is to think of goals as a prayer. A request.

Do you ever remember going to your mum or dad and pestering them for something like an ice cream until they say "NO!" If you think of your goal as a question of God, do you think he might get jack of you not having the faith he is giving it to you? Just like a mum or a dad. Please relax. Pick a different goal, there's plenty to aim for so stop asking for the same thing.
