All-in-one: Gather, Process, And Display Data, Directly From Physical Devices

With Data Refinery by Gurux Ltd, you can easily gather data directly from physical devices, process the data according to your own definitions, and display the results the way you need. Gurux Data Refinery is an Open Source application.

March 17, 2010 - PRLog -- You can use Data Refinery either just to gather data and save it as a file, or to process collected data in several ways, and to display it in the form of your own choice. The operation of the application is based on so called repository model, in which settings of collecting and processing data are saved in repositories, and they can be combined without limits. Due to this, you can easily pick the needed details, without losing the bigger picture.

Settings of collecting data are set to a collector that retrieves the data directly from a data source. The source can be, for example, a web site, whose reader amounts are monitored, or metering equipment. The gathered data is called raw data, which the application then refines for various purposes of use, with processors. A processor can be of type a filter, a joiner, a series of calculations, or what ever operation to be done to the data. You can define a limitless amount of processors to work on the data. The processed data can then be displayed in many ways, with visualizers. Data Refinery can thus refine data from devices all the way to diagrams.

It is easy to start using Data Refinery, because time consuming configurations are not needed. The application is built in a way to be connected to monitor any system, without changing the system itself. In addition to its coverage, Data Refinery is also flexible; collectors, processors, and visualizers are all highly customizable.

Data Refinery makes, not just gathering and processing, but also using the data, more effective. You can set the application to send a summary to certain receivers by E-mail. A summary can be, for instance, the gathered raw data, or even a visual display of the data gathered and processed from multiple devices. In addition, you can mark timestamped events in the process. You can use the markings in system control to show, what operations or incidents have an effect on the system, and how. This way you can use the existing data, when planning the future.

Gurux Ltd has published Data Refinery, like all other Gurux products, as an Open Source application. This means that anyone can download the application from Internet, and use it under GPL2 license.

- There are many applications for processing data in the market, but most of them process only databases. Many of them also have data mining features. We are not competing with them, but just want to offer an easy all-in-one solution for gathering data directly from physical devices, processing the data and make it easier to use the information. A solution that is easy to implement, without reprogramming the whole system, and which is easy to modify to meet user specific needs, says Mikko Kurunsaari, CEO of Gurux Ltd.
