Abingdon at Tradition Celebrates Wellness Center Grand Opening

March 4, 2010 - PRLog -- Abingdon at TraditionSM, Port St. Lucie’s newest retirement community celebrated the opening of its multimillion dollar wellness center on Tuesday, March 2 with a brief ceremony featuring guest speaker Darrell Drummond, CEO of Port St. Lucie’s Council on Aging.

Abingdon, a luxury retirement community located in the heart of TraditionSM, is centered around the well-being of its members with the goal of providing a range of social and fitness activities to enhance longevity and quality of life.

Drummond discussed how Abingdon’s mission overlaps with the Council on Aging‘s future goals.

“We are happy to have Abingdon in Port St. Lucie, because we have similar goals,” Drummond emphasized.  “Just like us, the community believes seniors are happiest when they are able to live in their own home independently for as long as possible – we’re looking forward to a continued partnership.”

The Council on Aging’s largest volunteer-based program is Meals on Wheels, a service which delivers quality meals to home-bound seniors.  

Guests in attendance toured the outdoor pool, the member fitness rooms and the indoor therapy pool which will be used for aquatic-based exercise classes.  Visitors also saw The Retreat, Abingdon’s assisted living and memory care building which features private rooms and a separate clubhouse. With an emphasis on person-centered care, defined as a transition from a more institutional model of health care to a home-like setting, the Retreat features a warm, cozy kitchen and a bright red front door complete with a welcome mat.

Abingdon opened its clubhouse in January 2010, and every section of the community will be officially opened on April 7, when the community celebrates its final, and largest grand opening.
