PRLog -- Al Yah Satellite Communications Company (Yahsat), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Mubadala Development Company, has reportedly been granted UAE’s third telecommunications services licence by the Telecom Regulatory Authority (TRA). The 10-year concession will enable Yahsat to offer services similar to those currently provided by incumbent Telco Etisalat and Du such as installation, operation and management of a public telecommunications.
According to Waleed Al Muhairi, Chairman of Yahsat, his company would offer a range of voice, data, video and internet connectivity solutions, including High Definition (HD) television and broadband through a satellite technology scheduled to be launched next year.
Commenting on the event, TRA director general Mohammed Nasser Al Ghanim said: “The licensing of Yahsat comes as confirmation of the role of the TRA in driving the country’s telecommunications so it can compete globally” He also added: “Through this licence Yahsat will provide the region’s first multi-purpose satellite telecommunications system“
