Feb. 8, 2010 - PRLog -- April 30th, 2010 marks the end of the popular First-Time Home Buyer Tax Credit program, which provided up to $8000 in credit for first timers and $6500 for long time home owners. First time home buyers are those who have not previously owned a home. This has also been extended to apply to those who have not had a primary residence in the three years before the prospective home purchase. Please keep in mind that for married couples, both spouses must qualify under this definition of first-time home buyer. Additionally, neither party can have been claimed as a dependent during the year of home purchase.

Houses, condos, co-ops, house trailers, and house boats are covered under this program. So long as your current or prospective property is not a rental or vacation home, you can potentially qualify for this attractive government program.

If you are a military or federal employee living outside the United States, you may qualify for an additional year to take advantage of this program.  

This program has already been extended once. Potential home-buyers and current home owners must act fast. Even if you have already filed your 2010 taxes, you can amend your filing to reflect your home purchase. However, the purchase of the home must be closed by June 30th or at least show a binding contract by April 30th.
