| ![]() The top 5 most common Campervan rental questionsThe answer to the 5 most common campervan rental questions you've always wanted to ask
By: Bunk Campers We notice however that most tourists hiring a campervan for the first time ask similar questions. At Bunk Campers, we aim to demystify the campervan experience and fully inform the customer of all they need to know prior to pick up and before they leave our depot to embark on their journey. What are the top 5 questions? 1) What are campsite facilities like in Ireland? There is a highly developed network with 100’s of campsites across Ireland to choose from. Many are nestled off the beaten track so you could end up in the country, lakeside or seaside. We provide free booklets for every customer which list campsite facilities in order of location in Ireland. During busy times of the year, like July and August, it is advisable to ring and book a pitch ahead of arrival. Most campsites offer washroom facilities, electric hook-up points, public telephones, with some offering internet access, children’s playground area, grocery shops and tennis courts. 2) Can I ‘free camp’ when in Ireland? Free camping is a ‘grey area’, which we always give the same advice to all who ask about this. There are lots of people who wish to pick their perfect spot and camp in their room with a view. However it might not always be the safest place to do. There are areas in Ireland which are very remote which is why we tell customers that they must make a clear judgment based on the level of their personal safety. If ever unsure, then don’t park up. Continue to drive ahead on the road you are on and find somewhere that is well lit and not too secluded. 3) How do I use the utilities in the campervan? All utilities in the campervan either work off gas, water, electric, car battery or a mixture of all 4. All customers are supplied with ample amount of gas to last the length of their rental, included in the daily rate. Electric will obviously not be available unless hooked up to a mains supply. We at Bunk Campers heavily invest in a comprehensive check in and demonstration of all aspects of the campervan. We provide a complete manual with coloured photographs to illustrate all the workings of the campervan if you need to refer to it during your holiday. 4) What do I do if campsites are closed at the time of year I rent? At certain times of the year which fall out of season like November through to February, campsites are closed. Therefore we suggest that you use public washrooms to empty your toilet cassette, garage forecourts to fill up water and why not take a trip to a leisure centre for a swim whilst afterwards making the most of a hot shower. You will need to charge your car battery regularly in order to keep all utilities running but this will be explained at the time of pick-up. 5) Is the campervan difficult to drive? Our campervans are slightly larger vehicles than customers are used to driving, however they are a compact alternative to motorhomes and RV’s. To rent the 2 berth delux and 4 berth campervans we require all drivers to be over 25 years of age. The smaller 2 berth standard can be driven by over 21 year olds. We ensure that all drivers are given a full mechanical explanation of the campervan before they leave the depot and all blind spots are established. We advise that the turning circle must be wide when approaching corners and always remember to be conscious of wing mirrors when driving in narrow streets, as they tend to be damaged most frequently. Being aware of the dimensions of the campervan and taking the traditional country roads at a slow pace is the key to successful and safe driving a Bunk Camper. Bunk Campers offer transfers from the airport to their depots in Dublin and Belfast, unlimited mileage across Ireland and a free trip advisory service.
