Feb. 3, 2010 - PRLog -- Odessa, TX— The Odessa Civic Engagement Project hosted its forth Civic Participation Training. This session gave a historical perspective of American civic engagement, provided a discussion on voting legislation and diverse cultures working together as Americans.

Dr. Ana Martinez-Catsam, Associate Professor of History – UTPB, was the speaker for the 2 hour session.

Art Leal, Program Coordinator, stated:  “We must continue to engage the entire community of Odessa and stress the importance of being involved in our communities.  One of our basic rights as Americans is voting, and right now we have low voting numbers at the polls.”  Art also stated, “We are pleased with the turnout and hope that more will find interest in attending the ongoing civic sessions.”

Currently, the Odessa Civic Engagement Project is taking reservations for those wishing to their next session, “Understanding Political Parties” which will be held at Odessa College on February 18th.  Participation is free.
