FX Group’s WPBF 25 Breakthrough Design Wins First Annual Set Of The Year Award

Jan. 27, 2010 - PRLog -- FX Group and WPBF 25 (West Palm Beach – ABC affiliate) newsroom studio won  Newscaststudio.com’s Best Set Design of 2009. This first annual competition asked voters to choose between three newsset designs nominated earlier in the month by the prominent television industry website. The breakthrough look was designed, fabricated and installed by Orlando based FX Group http://www.fxgroup.tv in late 2009.  

According to Glenn Anderson and John Cashman, the FX design team, the creative goal was to design a look for the next generation of news while providing exceptional set functionality. Using the existing station layout and relationship of the set areas FX introduced futuristic materials such as frosted Plexiglas, internally lit furniture pieces and dramatic lighting features to create the award winning design. The overall combination of fixtures, color choices and lighting provided by FX lighting designer Eric Haugen provides an interesting yet subtle and inviting background to present the news.

“Our overall objective was to give our viewers a unique and engaging experience when it comes to local news. The versatility of the set, its bold color and expansive design gives us that flexibility and makes our news cast stand out in the market,” says WPBF 25 Vice President and General Manager, Caroline Taplett. WPBF 25 debuted the new set on September 29, 2009.

Readers and subscribers to NewsCastStudio.com chose the WPBF 25 design by a landslide with 65% of the votes cast. Coming in second in the voting was FOX Business Studio G in New York City a Clickspring design with 19% votes. Third place went to KTLA-LA designed by Broadcast Design International with 13%.
