Businesses succeeding online scrap being Active for being Attractive

Attraction is often overlooked when building a profile on a social media platform but is the key part of forming long lasting relationships and winning new business, claims leading Societal Web expert William Buist.

Jan. 18, 2010 - PRLog -- Buist, who specialises in helping businesses to utilise social media for business, is urging people to remember that people prefer to buy from people they like and that the first step to success online is to make yourself an attractive connection, so that people genuinely like you and want to find out more about you.

“In general, we like people who share some aspects of our life, be that following the same football team, liking the same composers, joint membership of a club, or similar activity. When we have those areas of common interest they provide a lubricant for conversation and that enables us to explore the thinking and ways of working that an individual has in a ‘safe’ area of their lives. It’s ‘safe’ because we have an understanding of it already and the shared interest means that conversation can flow more easily. Once we’ve developed a sense of liking another person, they gain the ability to influence our thinking (as do we of theirs) because we respect their view and understand the framework from which it is formed,” reveals Buist.

Buist claims that The Societal Web allows others to talk about interests and hobbies which attract those who share the same interest/hobby which in return will bring both recipients closer together and through attraction, will allow them to converse more and may even lead to good business.

“In the Societal Web we may draw those people from a much wider geographic or disparate constituency than we would in a face-to-face situation. So becoming attractive is a key aspect on the journey that we make, and this is closely linked to being influenced by those we like, and influencing those who like us. We may be attracted to the people who bring us knowledge, skills and experience, and yet not create a feeling of being liked, but in general we will like those whose content we are attracted to. It’s about recognising the people that like us, and those that we like in return and how this leads to generating business in the future,” adds Buist
